This movie stars an astronaut who has to survive after being left stranded on a mission to Mars. The movie is based off of the novel by Andy Weir and stars famous actor Matt Damon as the astronaut who was left behind. This looks like a real sci-fi and definitely something I hope doesn’t turn out to be a disappointed and it seems like it could be a real good one given the supporting cast (Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Jessica Chastain), as well as the awesome screenwriter Drew Goddard, and the visual and techincal prowess from Scott.
Alex Garland’s movie Ex-Machina features a talented programmer who was selected to work for his billionaire boss up in his secret facility somewhere in the mountains. He finds out pretty soon that his boss has managed to create artificial intelligence in the form of a young woman named Ava. The programmers role is to test Ava in the form of a turing test to see if she can actually pass as being completely human.
Elysium ended up being somewhat of a disappointment from Neill Blomkamp after the great success of District 9. However, Chappie makes up for that.In the not to distant future finding yourself getting a speeding ticket or a gun pointed at you by a robot is not an uncommon thing. Intelligent robots are now the face of the police force going into dangerous situation in the place of humans. Chappie–an ex-police robot who was sent to the scrap heap for getting destroyed on the job, eventually finds himself waking up fully alive and intelligent after a programmer downloads AI software into him.Chappie enters this world just like a baby would–unaware of his surrounding and initially frightened by what he sees. Chappie grows up just like any human boy would; being extremely impressionable and whose personality and lifestyle is essentially shaped by the people around him.
Avengers: Age Of Ultron
Probably the most anticipated movie this year is Avengers. Think Iron Man, the Hulk and the evil Ultron going at it in an epic war against humanity. People might say this isnt much of a sci-fi but it does have aliens like Thor and artificial intelligence in the form of Vision and Ultron. Even the hulk is a genetically modified abonination. Expect a lot of explosions and special effects in this one.
Arnold is back. In these version of the Terminator John Connor is the leader of the human resistance. He sends Sgt Kyle Reese back in time to 1984 to safeguard the future by protecting his young mother. As always things don’t pan out the way they were supposed to and a host of bad events featuring killer robots and other problems finds their way in the path of the resistance. There is a scene in here where Arnold Schwartzenegger appears to be fighting himself from what he looked like in the 80’s. Pretty cool body double and face modifications they did.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Despite all of the names of the list and all other movies to be released in 2015, Star Wars will eclipse all of them in popularity and likely revenue as well. Most of this movie has been kept secret but we do know that Luke, Han Solo, and Leia have been reunited after over 30 years. New forces in the roles of heroes and villains are going to be showing their faces here as well.
